About the Event

This is a great opportunity, in light of the government’s recent announcement to mandate the addition of folic acid to flour, to reflect on the role in the diet provided by fortified refined grains, whole grains, fibre along with consumer awareness and consumer choice.

Our two speakers will walk us through the role of refined grains in the diet and the UK policy on fortification of flour.

The first part will be presented by Ursula Arens, nutritionist, freelance writer, media commentator and previously worked as senior nutrition scientist at the British Nutrition Foundation. Ursula will be focussing on the nutritional benefits of flour and of refined, fortified grains.

The second part, on fortification policies, will be presented by Grace Blackman, DHSC’s policy officer dealing with nutrition legislation.
