Varieties Working Group expands

The nabim Varieties Working Group (VWG) has expanded over the past year to include an additional member company, as well as the return of a member following a brief hiatus as their central laboratory moved site.

This expansion helps to ensure the group is as representative of the industry as possible, and not only provides more expertise when it comes to assessing results and assigning prospective milling varieties a quality rating, but allows a broader understanding of varieties quality attributes in terms of the types of milling and baking tests that are carried out.

Despite a late-harvested crop and Covid-19 restrictions affecting laboratories, the VWG completed its analyses this harvest within a tight deadline.

Some of the varieties assessed will go through to Recommended List trials and may be grown commercially in 2022, ensuring that domestic milling wheat continues to meet our quality requirements.
