Action on sustainable pesticides

As part of our work advocating for productive domestic agriculture, UK Flour Millers responded to the Defra consultation on its draft action plan for sustainable pesticide use. Our position emphasised the need for UK cereal farming that is both sustainable and capable of producing enough raw material, so that policy does not simply export the environmental footprint of food production to other countries if British farmers cannot grow enough.

It also asked for clarity on how the UK divergence from the EU approach to pesticide regulation will take shape. These points will be followed up with policymakers this year. as the secretariat continues to engage at committee meetings and through other channels, such as the Arable Chain Advisory Group, chaired by Alex Waugh.
