Each year we collate our own data on sales of pre-packed flour as figures from other sources don’t seem to tally with the experiences of millers. As expected, 2020 was a bumper year for pre-packed flour with total sales up 36% - 62KT on 2019. Increased sales were seen in all quarters with Q2 seeing by far the largest increase.
Data from our website echo this – with 60,000 visits to our baking conversion charts page and 30,000 people accessing our page asking "What Went Wrong" with their bread baking during that quarter.
Sales continue to be buoyant but as lockdown restrictions lift changes in lifestyle – children back at school and perhaps a return to work – could impact on people’s time to bake and therefore on flour sales.
